My all time favorite meal growing up was Chinese hotpot and it’s still one of my favorite things to eat on a cold and cozy night. Good thing shabu-shabu and hotpot restaurants are readily available around the metro.
Simply put, shabu-shabu or hotpot is a Chinese customary way to cook food in a simmering pot of soup which contains different vegetables, meats, and spices. It is said to be a healthier way to cook meat and vegetables in soup rather than in oil. That is why I can't help but pig out every time I visit one.
Last week, I got to try the newly opened Chao Shang Beef Hotpot City restaurant in Pasay. It is located in a prime development location at Building D, Filinvest Cyberzone Bay City, Pasay City, which is quite accessible and soon to be the next big hit.
The restaurant is owned by Jiadi Lin and a few other partners from China. He owns several hotels in the country but has recently started to invest in Chao Shang Beef Hotpot City since he wanted to share a part of their Chao Shang food and culture to the Filipinos. He mentioned that customers all over the world flew in and out of Chao Shang city in China simply because of the food that they offer there. And now, it's Manila's time to try it.
Chao Shang Beef Hotpot City only offers the freshest vegetables and meat. In fact, their Chinese chefs go to Tagaytay every morning to get the best meat possible, debone it and slice it for serving. What's more interesting is that every part of the meat is being utilized for cooking and eating so that not a single thing goes to waste. Even the bones of the meat are being boiled into a flavorful soup.
One thing I enjoy in hotpot restaurants is mixing my own sauce. I usually get garlic, onion leeks and satay and mix them to my soup. Trust me, it adds a good taste to it.
The hotpot can be availed in unlimited for only PhP 1,198 NET per person or per meat/vegetable that ranges from PhP 150- PhP 368.
While the hotpot is the best-seller, the restaurant also offers single orders such as Beef Hofan Guisado, Beef Fried Rice, Beef Bola-bola, Hofen Soup, Beef Steak Hofan Soup, and more. Single orders are good for 2-3 persons. Me and my fellow bloggers enjoyed the food and I especially loved the Beef Bola-bola. It was so pure and delicious, I had to take home frozen goodies for my family to try.
Should you crave authentic Chinese food anytime soon, Chao Shang Beef Hotpot City is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m. For more information about Chao Shang Beef Hotpot City, you can follow their Facebook account or call +63 2 826 8186.
