Lovers in Paris: A Tell-all of our Engagement Proposal

I got engaged to my boyfriend, David Lui last Dec. 24, 2018 at the most romantic city, the City of Love, Paris.

Unlike any other family, David and his' don’t usually plan their trips. They do it spontaneously, hence, everything had to be rushed—from getting a VISA to preparing clothes for the cold weather. And sometimes things like these get on to my nerves since the Leo in me always wants everything to be perfect. I got my VISA literally weeks before the trip, we didn’t get to rent a pocket wifi and didn’t even get to plan our itinerary. Well, that’s what I thought.

During the first day, we decided to roam around the city. Some of the famous tourist spots we visited were the Louvre, the Notre Dame, and St. Chapelle.

At the end of the day, Tita Jullette (David’s mom’s best friend), welcomed us for dinner at their beautiful apartment. We had a sumptuous dinner wherein they served fresh oysters, uni and escargot. That’s what you call living the Parisian life!

Planning what we want to do the next day, they suggested on going to a luxury outlet store in La Valee Village before heading to the Eiffel Tower for a quick photo shoot. Wait…Did you smell something fishy there? I didn’t because I’m always the clueless one. Besides, I like photo shoots and Tita Jullette’s an awesome photographer.

The next day, David’s family and I wore our best outfits for the photo shoot. It was a rainy day and it really heightened the chills. We went to the luxury outlet store, which was an hour away from the city, somewhat near Disneyland Paris. And honestly, when I saw the entrance of Disneyland Paris, I wanted to ditch the shopping part. But of course, I had to let it go and that made me a bit sad because the kid in me really wanted to experience the happiest place on earth in Paris. It took us almost the whole afternoon in La Valee Village and I wasn’t able to buy something because I didn’t find anything I like. The next thing I was looking forward to is the photo shoot at the Eiffel Tower but the sun wasn’t cooperating and it was already setting while we were on our way back to the city. Not to mention, we hadn't eaten lunch yet. So imagine how bad the day was for me.

So when we arrived, we hurriedly took pictures and videos of the iconic Eiffel Tower. Then it was me and David's turn to have our photo taken. While I was posing for the camera, he went down on one knee and presented me the most beautiful piece of jewelry. The love my life asked me to marry him! Of course, the answer was yes and I will always say yes to that!

I was shocked and happy at the same time. Naturally, tears of joy ran down my cheeks. That was totally unexpected, what a quick turn of events!

The location, the timing and the people I was with made this proposal an unforgettable one.

The morning after was surreal. I woke up to a sunny Christmas day, looked at my ring one more time, and hugged David tightly. That was when it hit me that we are really truly engaged! I wasn't dreaming! I revealed the news to my parents the day after since the time difference and lack of internet really hindered me from taking the call. I'm just so glad that they are happy for us.

As the next chapter of our lives unfold, David and I went for a cruise. Everything was so romantic and memorable I couldn't help but get teary-eyed again. Because at that moment, we were not just lovers in Paris, we were going to be lovers for life. :)
